Equine neosporosis
La néosporose équine
Résumé
Neospora spp. is thought to be one possible cause of encephalomyelitis in horses. It is unsure whether it is an abortive agent in horses. The symptoms, examination of the cephalospinal fluid, histological analysis and necrotic lesions can be confused with equine protozoal myeloencephalitis caused by Sarcocystis neurona. A definitive diagnosis can only be made by direct visualisation of the parasite. There is no specific treatment for neosporosis in horses. Preventative hygiene measures are recommended. Serological data shows that this parasite is present in the United States and in France
