Patience et énigme selon Emmanuel Levinas

Emmanuel Housset

Abstract

For early christian philosophy patience is condition to becoming a person and to consent to the good. But for modern philosophy will is a self-determination and the patience is only a form of self-perseverance. Levinas reverse Husserl’s phenomenology and rediscover patience as more as a virtue. For Levinas patience as first passivity is respect for Time and a life for other. From Totality and infinity to Otherwise than being or beyond essence describe Levinas the patience of vulnerability as condition of responsibility. Levinas philosophy is not an ethic, but she explain the social sense of patience.
