Power Factor Compensation Based Control Scheme for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine Drives

Résumé

An adaptive fuzzy logic control (FLC) scheme is presented for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) as an alternative to conventional control techniques. Unlike other controllers, the proposed strategy achieves speed tracking without any current loop regulation, which yields reduced complexity. However, the absence of current control leads to higher energy consumption and limits the operation range of these machines. This paper proposes a simple power factor compensation technique to decrease the machine's consumption and extent its operation range. The controller is validated through a set of simulations on an experimentally validated PMSM model. Results for different situations highlight the performance of the proposed strategy in transient, steady-state, and standstill conditions.
